International theatre festival

Seven students from the American University of Sharjah (AUS) theatre programme won high praise when they performed their unique play Neveshaya at the 12th International Theatre Festival held recently at the Lebanese American University (LAU) in Beirut, Lebanon. Theatre troupes from Germany, Netherlands, Palestine, UAE, Morocco, Turkey, Syria, Kuwait and Lebanon participated in the week-long festival. Neveshaya was developed by AUS students along with Anthony Tassa, associate professor of theatre in the Visual and Performing Arts Programme at the College of Arts and Sciences.

Student poster contest

Salwa Nahouli and Shahad Naseeb, students of the Visual Communication Department at the American University in Dubai (AUD), were among winners in the IAA-Dentsu Global Student Poster Competition. While Nahouli claimed the competition's Middle East/Africa category regional award for her poster Penguin2, Naseeb won third place for her poster titled Brain. The competition was organised by the International Advertising Association (IAA) in support of the United Nations action for climate change.

Flight instructors graduate

Horizon International Flight Academy's 13th batch of flight instructors recently graduated after completing their Flight Instructor Course. The primary focus of the course is to test the theoretical aviation knowledge and instructional techniques of prospective flight instructors.

Graduates urged to change

Indian consul general Venu Rajamony urged students to pioneer change in the world in which they live at the recent BITS Pilani Dubai class of 2009 graduation ceremony. He went on to encourage the 295 graduating students to have faith in themselves and their abilities despite challenges they may face embarking on a new phase of life during turbulent economic times. About 229 men and 66 women received a BE (Hons) degree in one of five Engineering fields.

Hult students graduate

Hult International Business School recently celebrated the graduation of its inaugural class. Representing 29 countries, 97 students graduated from the school's MBA programme. "Our new academic year will boast a much broader offering of master's and MBA programmes including an innovative MBA Honours programme for MBA graduates looking to refresh their business knowledge" said Nick van der Walt, academic dean. The academic year 2009/10 will also see the continuation of the university's Pocket MBA Seminars. These are intense two-day courses covering topical areas of interest to senior managers.

MSU scholarship winners announced

Michigan State University (MSU) Dubai has announced the 10 student recipients of its inaugural Dubai Distinguished Scholarship Award Programme worth $100,000 (Dh367,325). Awards range from full programme tuition scholarships to annual research stipends. The winners are Sumayya Saleh, Mariam Saleh, Keynan Ahmad Abdi Hussain, Kubatbek Alimbekov, Sana Seddiqi, Kiril Petrovzki, Anam Chohan, Ameenah Saleh, Viraj Sharan Kumar and Negar Hosseinifar. They are studying a range of subjects from general management, construction management, computer engineering, media and communication technology to family community services.

Student film festival

Prereana Screen Unit, Dubai, a group of film lovers based in the UAE, is inviting submissions from students for their Study Cam Film Fest to be held this summer. Video films in DVD format of a maximum duration of five minutes can be submitted on or before September 10. Contestants should be 20 or younger. A jury panel will select 20 films that will be screened at a one-day film festival. The best film will receive a cash prize.
