Sony announces plans to release Spider-Man sequels in 2014, 2016 and 2018

Andrew Garfield knows what he’s doing for the next few years, and now you do too.
Sony Pictures announced on Monday the release dates for the third and fourth versions of its Spider-Man movies starring the British actor.
In addition to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which will debut on May 2, 2014, Sony will release the next two films about Peter Parker on June 10, 2016, and May 4, 2018.
Jeff Blake, chairman of worldwide marketing and distribution for Sony Pictures said: “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”
No news yet on whether Marc Webb, the director of the first two Spider-Man films, will stay at the helm of the project as it continues.
The director is currently in production on Spider-Man 2 in New York, working from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt.
The studio is planting a flag on a wide-open calendar: An untitled Marvel movie will be debuting three weeks ahead of Spider-Man 3 in 2016, while its 2018 date can count only an untitled June Pixar film as its competition.
