Her account is a “bold reminder” of sad realities that plague the Malayalam film industry
Dubai: The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) has voiced strong support for actress Vincy Aloshious following her recent revelation about drug use and inappropriate behaviour she endured on a film set.
The collective called her account a “bold reminder” of the troubling realities that continue to plague the Malayalam film industry.
In a statement, the WCC commended Vincy for shedding light on the rampant issues of alcoholism and drug abuse on sets, which, they said, often jeopardise the dignity and safety of women.
“She has drawn attention to the naked truth,” the WCC said, reiterating the urgent need for safer, more accountable work environments in cinema.
They also reminded the industry that, as per a Kerala High Court directive, every film set in Kerala is legally required to have an Internal Committee (IC) to address sexual harassment complaints.
“It is the responsibility of the producer to ensure that an IC is present, registered on the official portal, and that all members are informed of its composition,” the statement read. “Any complaint must be directed to the IC, and appropriate action must follow.”
The WCC clarified that the legal definition of sexual harassment extends beyond physical acts to include any behaviour that causes discomfort to women in the workplace. They called on all film workers to uphold this system and ensure the presence of functional ICs on every set.
“An efficient IC will empower women to work with dignity and equality,” they concluded.
Vincy Aloshious names Shine Tom Chacko in formal complaint
Vincy Aloshious has now named actor Shine Tom Chacko as the co-star whose behaviour she had earlier flagged. She has submitted a formal complaint to the film chamber, prompting an emergency meeting by the chamber’s monitoring committee on Monday, April 14.
Following her complaint, Kochi police reportedly raided the hotel where Shine was staying. He is now absconding after videos emerged of him making a hasty exit from the hotel as the police conducted a drug bust.
Earlier, Vincy had posted a video on Instagram detailing Shine’s disturbing behaviour, including allegedly spitting a white powder suspected to be drugs and attempting to adjust her costume without consent.
