The decision by ABC came after Nexstar Media Group announced plans to pull the show
Walt Disney Co.'s ABC network has suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely, a move that follows intense criticism over remarks the host made about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The suspension was announced late Wednesday and took effect immediately, canceling that night's scheduled broadcast. ABC's decision came shortly after Nexstar Media Group announced its own plans to pull the show from its stations. In a statement, Nexstar said the host’s comments were 'offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse' and did not align with the values of the local communities it serves.
Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of the influential conservative youth group Turning Point USA, was killed during a public event at Utah Valley University.
During his Monday night monologue, Kimmel addressed reactions to Kirk's death. He accused the 'MAGA gang' of attempting to score political points from the tragedy. 'We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,' Kimmel said.
The remarks drew swift condemnation from conservative commentators and political figures. On his Truth Social account, US President Donald Trump celebrated the suspension, calling it 'Great News for America' and stating that Kimmel has 'ZERO talent.'
This is not the first time the two have clashed, as Kimmel has been a vocal critic of Trump for years.
