After months of speculation about his role in Christopher Nolan’s movie Dunkirk, actor Tom Hardy has finally begun shooting for the Second World War-based film in California.

Hardy was spotted shooting on Friday.

Some of the photographs offer a first glimpse of Hardy’s look.

In the images, he is seen hopping into the pilot’s seat of a replica British spitfire. The actor is seen dressing in an ensemble reminiscent of a RAF fighter pilot and combining it with a dark jacket, goggles and a helmet.

Set in the 1940s, Dunkirk revolves around allied soldiers from Belgium, Britain and France who are surrounded by the German army and evacuated during a fierce battle in the Second World War.

The film also stars Fionn Whitehead and Harry Styles.

The action thriller is set to release on July 21, 2017.
