If this isn’t your comfort film, then what is?

Jab We Met, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor is almost immortalised for the audience. Since 2007, people have yearned for a release---they really want to know about Aditya and Geet’s happy-ever-after, but sigh, we never got that. With today’s remake fatigue, perhaps it’s a blessing that some stories stay that way—untouched, unbothered, iconic.

So, what makes Jab We Met so loved, even today? Why do we still wish for that old magic, and keep quoting Geet’s dilaogues Main Toh Apni Favourite Hoon, or bewildered Anshuman’s lines: Nahin dekhna ganne ki khet. Kyun dekhun maine ganne ki khet? But that was the fun of the good old days of Bollywood, right amount of romance, fun and wackiness. Watching a morose Aditya slowly feel alive again as the bubbly, chatty Geet enters his life and takes him, literally, for a ride. There’s the sweetness of romance, acceptance, and healing, as he has a chance to bring joy into her life too, after she loses faith in the idea of love and marriage. The music was a bop, and fans still return to Tum Se Hi for romantic tunes.

Jab We Met is an ideal summer, winter, all-time binge. You can’t get enough of it. You can never get enough of it. In a world that misses the magic of old-school Bollywood romcoms, this film remains a warm, reassuring reminder.
