There are several things going for the upcoming Tamil film, Nee Enge En Anbe. First, it is touted as a remake of Vidya Balan’s thriller Kahaani. Secondly, this bilingual in Tamil and Telugu has been directed by Sekhar Kammula. He won a national award for his debut film and triggered a new wave in Telugu cinema.

Adding strength to it is the presence of the glamorous Nayanthara in the lead. Hold it, there is more.

The story has been tweaked a bit. Although this thriller is about a young woman’s search for her missing husband, she is not pregnant as in the original.

Justifying the changes he has made in the story, Kammula said: “I believe a woman should be respected at all stages of her life and not just sympathised during her pregnancy. Women are vulnerable at all stages.”

Nayanthara plays Anamika, a Tamilian woman who goes to Hyderabad to find her missing husband. Kammula praised Nayanthara for her dedication to the role, adding that she insisted on doing stunt scenes herself and not use a double.

Vaibhav Reddy plays a police constable, a role reprised by Parambrata Chatterjee in the original. Other members of the cast include Pashupathy, Harshavardhan Rane and Vinay Varma. Music is scored by M.M. Keervani. Cinematography is by Vijay C. Kumar.

Titled Anamika in Telugu, Nee Enge En Anbe releases in the UAE on May 1.

Will it bring the same glory to Nayanthara as it did for Balan? Watch this space for more.
