Dubai: Tollywood producer KP Chowdary, known for producing the Rajinikanth starrer Kabali, was found dead in Goa at the age of 44, according to media reports.

Chowdary, also known as Sunkara Krishna Prasad Chowdary and NK Choudhary, was staying in a rented accommodation in Siolim, North Goa, where his body was discovered.

He was found hanging at his rented home and was declared dead after being taken to the hospital, according to IANS.

Authorities have confirmed that the producer died by suicide. The police have initiated an investigation based on reports indicating suicide.

Sources indicate that the producer had been struggling with financial difficulties, which may have contributed to his tragic decision.

Chowdary, originally from Khammam district in Telangana, faced numerous challenges, particularly after his 2023 arrest in a high-profile drugs case involving prominent figures from Tollywood and Kollywood.

After entering the film industry, Chowdary’s financial situation declined, reportedly pushing him into the drug trade under pressure from moneylenders. A few years after relocating to Goa, he opened a pub that came under scrutiny for drug-related activities, further aggravating his financial struggles, reports added.

In addition to producing Kabali in 2016, Chowdary had distributed successful Telugu films like Gabbar Singh, Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, and Arjun Suravaram. However, his arrest in 2023 by Cyberabad Police and subsequent struggles to rebuild his personal and professional life seem to have taken a toll.
