Ever since Chinese actress Zhao Lusi began the month with a firestorm of allegations against KU agency, accusing them of financially and emotionally exploiting her, she has stayed unusually visible to her fans. Through a series of candid live broadcasts, the star has kept her audience updated, alternately venting her frustrations and lightening the mood with her trademark humour.

But the drama escalated recently when Zhao Lusi deleted her Weibo account altogether, severing ties with the country’s largest social media platform. The move followed a scathing outburst in which she accused Weibo itself of manipulation. She said Weibo used to arrange searches for her, when she was absent from their award ceremonies.  The actress didn’t hold back, openly mocking the platform’s tactics and questioning its fairness. “I’ve been tolerating you for so long. No madness ever comes out of nowhere, I’m just telling you this.” She also called them ‘overbearing” and “cruel.” “All of you evil people. The reason they can be so overbearing and so cruel is because those who are too afraid of them enable them.”

Moments after wiping her account, Lusi made a pointed statement to her fans, emphasising her independence from the rumor-mill that has long followed her career. “Applause! From now on, nobody can say I buy searches. If you think I’m chasing, it’s actually you chasing me.”

What has happened so far

In a candid post on Weibo earlier this month, Lusi has expressed her frustration and heartbreak, accusing KU of breaching financial agreements, withdrawing funds from her personal studio without authorisation, and leaving her to shoulder financial burdens alone while refusing to relinquish control of her studio operations.

“I’ve waited until now and still haven’t received any communication,” she wrote. “Two years ago, I stupidly renewed my contract, and now there’s a four-year financial agreement in place. So they’re not in a hurry—and I’m the only one left suffering.”

Allegations of financial mismanagement and coercion

Lusi laid out a series of grievances, including the unauthorised withdrawal of 2.05 million yuan from her studio's account. She claimed KU tricked her financial team into signing off on a split earnings report and refused to return operational control of her studio, which has since disbanded entirely. “How many team members are even left?” she wrote. “Eight months of waiting for a resolution and this is the result?”
