DJ Spin

I watched Bollywood flick Singh is Kinng and although I do occasionally like to leave the brain behind at home and enjoy mindless comedies on the big screen, this one did not entirely do it for me. Of course, the movie has its moments and will, by all means, go on to become a hit. It's also a delight to watch Akshay Kumar. But with the series of duds facing cine-goers lately, there has been some element of necessity to blockbust-erise this movie, wouldn't you agree?

I let out a chuckle though during the opening credits which included a mention of the hen that features in the opening scene. It read something like this: The hen has not been subjected to abuse or physical hardship. This was soon followed by zany shots of Akshay Kumar chasing a jumping, hopping bird around the village. I do not think I have ever seen a PETA friendly line before from Bollywood and although I sleep much better knowing that the bird did not face the torture of face paint, I am still queasy about the ambiguity of that statement, for surely the poor bird was intended for supper in the film.

On the subject of jumping and hopping, Big B and his entourage. who are currently on their Unforgettable World Tour, didn't do precisely that but remained composed after finding out that the tour was turning into an unforgettable one when they lost their baggage on the airline. Rumours are rife that Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan borrowed clothes for some sequences. This will explain some shots of the duo in trousers that end just above their ankles – it isn't a new fashion trend.

Coming to the hot topic of the Olympics, the representation of faster, higher and stronger finally managed to wrench one gold medal out of the one billion Indians. At the time of writing this edition of DJ Spin, I am still jumping up and down like the feathered friend from Singh is Kinng. Only this time, it's with joy.
