The film focuses on how different generations look at love from various perspectives. Valentine's Day starts out on a romantic note with Reed Bennett (Ashton Kutcher), a florist who has just realised that he's proposed to the wrong woman — Morley (Jessica Alba) - when he is actually in love with best friend Julia (Jennifer Garner). On the other hand, Julia has just discovered that her newfound love (Patrick Dempsey) is married. Other characters that will keep you occupied include Julia Roberts as Kate Hazeltine, a US Army Captain on a flight from Iraq to Los Angeles. Bradley Cooper, her seatmate, provides a shoulder for her to sleep on, not to mention a good ear. But he has his heart set on his footballer male friend.
Taking a generational leap, the film also features Shirley MacLaine and Hector Elizondo as Kate's parents, Estelle and Edgar. Happily married for more than 50 years, they have celebrated many Valentine's Days, but this particular one will bring some surprising revelations that will test their marriage.
On the youngest side is Edison who lives with his grandparents Estelle and Edgar. He is thinking of better ways to impress the girl of his dreams. Also having a teenage crush is Edison's babysitter, Grace (Emma Roberts) who has decided to take her relationship with boyfriend Alex (Carter Jenkins) to the next level.
Valentine's Day also stars Taylor Swift as Felicia, who is Grace's high school classmate, while Taylor Lautner plays Willy her boyfriend. They are being interviewed by a local news station, looking for the "man or woman-on-the-street" perspective on Valentine's Day. Jamie Foxx plays Kelvin, a sports reporter who has been assigned the "fluff" story. However, Kelvin is keen to have a scoop on Sean Jackson (Eric Dane) whose career is in doubt after his team loses in the playoffs.
Jessica Biel appears as Jackson's publicist, Kara Monahan, who has been unlucky in relationships and loves to throw ‘I Hate Valentine's Day Partys' every year.
Anne Hathaway plays Liz, a receptionist at the agency who makes her living by using the phone in more ways than one. Nevertheless, her alternative source of income creates problems with her boyfriend Jason (Topher Grace), who is a mailroom agent at the agency owned by Paula Thomas (Queen Latifah), a no-nonsense business woman who has no time for love.
With so many love stories interwoven in one film, Marshall hopes that Valentine's Day will inspire people to take a chance on a relationship and maybe even fall in love. However, whether you're in a relationship or not, a film with so many stars could be stressful, confusing and complicated. So get ready!
