After the much-acclaimed Drishyam, here comes Mr. Fraud, featuring Mohanlal in a role that is a stark contrast to the Georgekutty of Drishyam.

Directed by B. Unnikrishnan and touted as a heist film, Mr. Fraud has Mohanlal playing a high-tech robber, who decides to take on one last job before calling it quits — stealing a royal treasure.

This is Unnikrishnan’s ninth film, and his third one with Mohanlal, the earlier two being Madambi, a box-office hit in 2008 and Grandmaster, an investigative thriller made in 2012.

“This time, I wanted to make a film with Mohanlal playing negative shades,” says Unnikrishnan, who also wrote the script.

Unnikrishnan, who began his celluloid journey as a scriptwriter and also made tele-films, says it was comfortable working with Mohanlal.

However, the filming of Mr. Fraud was strenuous. “We worked round-the-clock and completed the film in 52 days.”

The supporting cast includes Sai Kumar, Siddique, Mia George, television star Pallavi Purohit, Bollywood’s Manjari Phadnis and Tamil actor Vijay Kumar.

Produced by A.V. Anoop, Mr. Fraud was shot in Kochi, Palakkad, Jaipur and Mumbai. Music is by Gopi Sunder and cinematography by Satheesh Kurup.

Mr Fraud released in Kerala on May 17 along with Manju Warrier’s How Old Are You?
