Date festival gears up festivities

Abu Dhabi: Preparations for Liwa international festival 2009 are going on for the kick off on January 25 with new events, an official said.

The 6 day festival is organised yearly by Abu Dhabi Motors Club in collaboration with Western Region Development Council and Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (Admc) in Al Gharbia (western region) under the patronage of Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, minister of presidential affairs.

"The festival will include many new events that attracts adventured sport lovers and heritage competitions" Abdulla Buti Al Qubasi, General Manager of (Admc) told Gulf News.

The new events are camel race, horse race, falcon race, in addition to Mureb Dune Cars and motorbikes championship.

Other activities will be associated with the main events such as Mureb Dune Market, hiring bikes, kid toys and Inflatables and fireworks.

The organizing committee finished scheduling competitions timing and competitors are required to register through the web site till January 20 according to Al Qubasi.

A 4wheel prize will be given to the best car timing, and a motorcycle will be given to the best bike timing in addition to cash prizes to the rest of winners in a musical ceremony at the final festival day.
