Dubai: If you’re still figuring out where to go this summer, you’re not alone — and chances are, you might not even be flying far. UAE travellers in 2025 are rethinking how they holiday, with less rush, more meaning, and a strong focus on value for money.

From “calmcations” to “townsizing”, UAE-based travel platform musafir.com says this summer’s getaways are all about intentional, feel-good experiences. Forget ticking off crowded landmarks — this year’s vacations are being planned around privacy, wellness, and culture.

“Travel is now deeply personal, intentional and often slower,” says Raheesh Babu, COO of musafir.com.

Here’s what’s trending:

1. Townsizing: Small towns, long stays

A growing number of UAE travellers — 35% according to musafir.com — are going for longer holidays (even a month or more) in small towns instead of busy cities. From hidden gems in Europe to peaceful spots in Southeast Asia, this “townsizing” trend is all about soaking up slower, local life.

2. Detour destinations: Off the tourist map

Nearly 1 in 2 travellers are opting for lesser-known destinations like Salalah, Abha, Georgia, Armenia, and Morocco. Why? They’re cooler, more affordable, and packed with unique charm — no tourist hordes, just authentic experiences.

3. Staycations: The local recharge

Not keen on airports? You’re not alone. Many UAE and Saudi residents are choosing quick, local getaways. Think weekends at beach resorts, desert retreats, or city breaks without crossing borders.

4. Calmcations: Wellness over wandering

If your holiday goal is to feel better, you’re in good company. Wellness-focused trips — think spa treatments, yoga, clean eating and nature — are booming. Destinations like Bali, Kerala, Thailand, and wellness resorts in the Philippines top the list for UAE calmcation seekers.

5. Workcations: Productivity meets peace

About 30% of UAE travellers are mixing business with leisure, booking extended stays in cooler regions of Europe and Asia where they can work remotely by day and explore by night.

Bonus: A little travel reward

To make summer bookings even sweeter, musafir.com has launched a ‘Summer Savings Spree’ — every customer gets an AED 500 travel voucher for their next trip.

“2025 travel is less about location and more about experience,” adds Babu. “It’s where curiosity, calm, and customization come together.”

Whether you’re escaping the heat or the hustle, this summer is about travelling with purpose — and maybe skipping the crowd while you're at it.
