UAE excise tax collection to be through E-Dirham

Abu Dhabi: The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) announced on Sunday that the collection of the Excise Tax will only be conducted through E-dirham.

The authority’s move supports the Emirati leadership’s approach to adopt an e-system that is up to date with the latest technologies and provides high efficiency levels in payment. It says E-dirham is the best way to ensure better and wider coverage of government revenue collection.

Excise Tax is set to be implemented in the UAE as of October 1 and will cover tobacco products, energy and soft drinks.

The UAE government is set to implement a value added tax (VAT) in the country from January 1, 2018.
