Dubai: The observation deck at the Burj Khalifa became the hottest place in town on Tuesday.

Crowds thronged the building at 3pm, a day after the opening, to zoom up in express elevators to the newly opened deck on the 124th storey of the iconic tower.

Ears popped in elevators as it raced at 10 metres per second, accompanied by a multimedia show and dramatic music.

Jaws dropped as the wide-eyed visitors stepped off the elevators. They soon recovered only to start clicking their cameras at each stunning scene.

Emiratis, expatriates and tourists alike enjoyed the breathtaking views over Dubai, with images of the amazing fireworks of Monday evening's opening fresh in their minds.

The merchandise store "At The Top" had a constant flow of customers who wanted to buy gifts.
