Etisalat eyes Idea Cellular for expansion

Dubai: Emirates Telecom Corp, the UAE's biggest phone company, said it's considering Idea Cellular Ltd among potential investment targets in India.

"There are many options in India and we are not excluding Idea Cellular," Jamal Al Jarwan, chief executive officer for international investments at Emirates Telecommunications, also known as etisalat, said on Monday.

Rajat Mukarji, a spokesman at Mumbai-based Idea, declined to comment. Acquisition in India would allow etisalat to become "an active player" in India.
