Esnaad, a wholly-owned Adnoc company, yesterday said it awarded a $4.9 million (Dh18 million) contract to Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) to design and build a 40-metre crew boat with an option for a second vessel.

The contract is the first part of Esnaad's major fleet replacement programme, which was announced earlier this year.

"The award underscores the continuation of our long-standing positive working relationship with Abu Dhabi Ship Building that has been carrying out most of the dry dockings of Esnaad-owned vessels over the past several years," said Darwish Al Qubaisi, general manager of Esnaad.

"Having proven their capability and competence to build modern vessels by undertaking a number of new construction projects in the recent past, we are confident that Abu Dhabi Ship Building is fully geared to meet our requirements of vessels in line with latest global standards," he said.

The 40-metre crew boat will be designed by Abu Dhabi-based Seaspray Marine Services and Engineering FZC and will be built of aluminum to the latest classification for high-speed craft.

William Saltzer, chief executive of Abu Dhabi Ship Building, said the selection reflects the confidence of Esnaad in the company, the expertise of its workforce and fast growing capability.

Esnaad currently has a fleet of 29 vessels of various types.
