Dubai: The 16th edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) opened yesterday with a series of activities at the Dubai Creek, water performances at the Dubai Fountain and firework displays that lit up the night sky around the city.

The main opening event was attended by Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture, and a host of other dignitaries, government officials and leading members of the private sector.

Downtown Burj Dubai was lit up by fireworks and the Dubai Fountain's water dance sequences were designed specially for the event. The DSF tagline One World, One Family, One Festival was flashed across the event.

Fireworks

Water and light played a key role in adding beauty and style as the water fountain came alive with stirring musical melodies. A spectacular fireworks display lit up the sky around the Burj Khalifa and stretched to cover the entire city. Four locations in the Shindagha area, Outlet Mall, Global Village and Creek Park creagted a simultaneous fireworks display that was enjoyed by all.

The public was invited to join in the festivities at the Creek Park.

Dancing and music

  • They enjoyed performances by dance troupes, music ensembles, jugglers, musicians and clowns.
  • The entertainment continued until midnight.
  • The event will run until February 20 and will take place at various venues across Dubai.
The month-long festival will feature a series of cultural programmes as shoppers enjoy offers galore from participating outlets.
