Company chief executives split on the need to reform nation's rules governing workers
Dubai: CEOs of both private and public companies shared their views on the current UAE labour policy yesterday.
"It's a good thing if the Labour Ministry is looking at reforming the labour policy. Labourers need to be protected and get proper treatment in terms of their accommodation, transportation etc. There are cases of labourers not being paid for three to five months. Now it's good to see a movement in changing the rules and regulations to protect the labourers," said Abdul Aziz Al Bannai, CEO of First Security Group.
Adel Ahmad Lootah, CEO of Das Holding, said: "We have a very high volume of workers coming here and the conditions under which they work are excellent. The labour policy doesn't need any reforms."
J.R. Gangaramni, CEO of Al Fara'a, said: "We employ more than 18,000 people and I think the labour policy here is one of the best in the Gulf. Every labourer is looked after and respected by the labour department."
