A tactical vehicle developed by Abu Dhabi and France is about to enter the manufacturing stage here and in France, the local company has announced.

Advanced Modular Vehicles (AMV) based in Abu Dhabi's Mussafah Industrial Area and French auto major Renault have developed a 4X4 high mobility tactical vehicle called the Sherpa 2.5/Al-Dhabi.

"The Sherpa has been tested over the past two years by both independent facilities and militaries worldwide and is currently being reviewed by multiple countries for adoption into their Land Forces," said Fersan Haddad, Regional Sales and Marketing Manager of AMV, a division of the Advanced Group of Companies.

High interest

"From now on we will begin manufacturing jointly with Renault Trucks Defence (TRD) in Abu Dhabi under the Al Dhabi brand and it will be manufactured in France under the brand Sherpa 2.5," Fersan Haddad told Gulf News.

Advanced Modular Vehicles will focus on the GCC markets while Renault will concentrate on markets worldwide.

Production will be based on orders.

"It really depends on orders. If an order is placed for 1,000 units we can produce it in two years," he said.

Advanced Modular Vehicles is currently displaying the vehicle at Idex and the vehicle is attracting strong interest.

"Our marketing began at this Idex.

"The response has been very good. Many armies, land forces, police forces and special forces have shown interest in the vehicle."

This versatile vehicle has numerous applications.
