Mallinder leaves England Rugby for Scotland

Will take over as performance director for Scots

London: Jim Mallinder, widely considered as a potential replacement for Eddie Jones as England rugby coach, has left the Rugby Football Union to take over as Scotland’s performance director.

Mallinder joined the England set-up last year after spells in charge of English clubs Sale and Northampton, and had been working with the RFU in youth development.

With Jones due to stand down in 2021, Mallinder appeared to be in the running to replace the Australian - initially to work alongside Jones from 2020.

In his role with Scotland, the 53-year-old Mallinder will oversee the pathway from the feeder system into Scotland’s two professional teams and the national teams in 15s and sevens.
