Billy Horschel has announced he will compete in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, adjusting his schedule after his recent triumph at the BMW Championship.

The American secured his second title at Wentworth last week, narrowly defeating Thriston Lawrence and Rory McIlroy in a dramatic play-off.

This win propelled him to third place in the Race to Dubai Rankings, putting the 38-year-old in contention to become only the second American to claim the prestigious Harry Vardon Trophy.

In the coming weeks, Horschel plans to compete in events in France and Scotland before one making one final push to catch McIlroy at the top of the standings at the season finale in Dubai.

“Up until last week I had played more than I have in a long time. I was going to take some time off and spend some time with the family, regroup, relax and recharge the batteries,” Horschel told Flushing It.

“After this victory and moving to third on the Race to Dubai, I’m going to now go and play the last event of the year in Dubai, the DP World Tour Championship.

“The event before in Abu Dhabi, I’m not able to play in as it’s my wife and my anniversary, so we are going away to celebrate because I am usually always playing golf. We made the decision months ago to have some time away and time to ourselves.

“I played it (DP World Tour Championship) back in ’21 when Collin Morikawa won, it was such a great event and it was my first time to Dubai. But I am looking forward to getting back over there again and playing the golf course a little bit better than I did last time!”
