Anca Mateiu, Dubai’s 13-year-old finishes fourth in Scotland event

Romania-born girl had been a junior champion at Montgomerie Golf Club

Dubai: Dubai-based Anca Mateiu finished fourth in the recent US Kids European Championship (13-14 Girls Age Category) at The Musselburgh Golf Club, just outside of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Born in Romania, the 13 year-old Anca, who has lived in Dubai with her parents for two years, plays off a 0.1 handicap, and is the junior champion and Ladies Club champion at the Montgomerie Golf Club, Dubai, as well as 2021 Romanian National Junior Girls Champion, shot rounds of 74, 68, and 71 for a three under par total of 213 played over the 4,951 par 72 layout.

The weather was cold and windy with the winner from England shooting rounds of 69, 69 and 66 to win by six shots from representatives from the Czech Republic and Mexico, with Anca in fourth.

The US Kids programme organises golf tournaments all over the world in boys and girls’ age categories between five and 18 years of age.

In this Scottish event, there were 16 different age categories for both boys and girls played over four different golf courses: Longniddry Golf Club, Craigielaw Golf Club, Glen Golf Club, Royal Musselburgh and The Musselburgh Golf Club with 28 players in the Girls 13 – 14 Category from 11 countries, including fellow UAE based golfer Aasiya Saleem, who finished 17th in the Division.

The next international event on Anca’s schedule is the US Kids Golf World Championships in July at Pinehurst Resort, US.
