Qatar maintain hold on GCC Championship as UAE claim junior title
Team Qatar continued to dominate the GCC Golf Championships on Wednesday over the National Course at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
Qatar lead by 13 shots in this best three from four scores event with one round to go. Saudi Arabia are second and Bahrain lies third, 10 more strokes back. The UAE are fourth, ahead of Oman and Kuwait in the six-team regional competition.
The qualifying scores for Qatar in round three came from Ali Al Shaharani (74), Saleh Al Kaabi (75) and Abdulrahman Al Shaharani (78).
Al Kaabi leads the individual leaderboard on 212, and has an eight-stroke lead from Saudi’s Faisal Sahleb and fellow Qatari Al Shaharani.
All three players will compete in next week’s DP World Tour Qatar Masters as amateur invites at Doha Golf Club.
Ahmad Skaik, the UAE President’s Cup champion, and 29th in the world amateur rankings is fourth, a further shot back.
The UAE won the 54-hole junior title, thanks to Abdalla Al Suwaidi, Rashid Al Jassmy and Mohammad Skaik. Al Suwaidi was third in the individual standings.
The final round of the GCC Men’s Division of the tournament takes place on Thursday.
