The Desert Rose Golfing Society (DRGS) recently hosted our final 2021 Breast Cancer Awareness Golf Day, the JA The Resort Pro-Am, featuring Ladies European Tour players Kelsey MacDonald and Olivia Cowan.

36 players competed in nine teams in this 4-player Team Shamble with a minimum of three drives per player, and full handicap allowance with the two professionals supporting.

The event was sponsored and supported by Mediclinic and JA The Resort, Jebel Ali, with presentations made to the competitors at the lunch prize giving ceremony by Mediclinic doctors, educating all attending about the importance of early detection of breast cancer.

This was our second anniversary event, ‘Remembering Rea,’ and we thank everyone for all their support.

The team event was won with 99 points by the quartet of Aileen Johnson, Agnes Anwar, Alison Bryant Melone and Anie Stapley.

MacDonald, a friend of JA The Resort, and Cowan, an Ambassador of JA Hotels and Resorts, were thanked by the organisers for their participation and all at DRGS wished them all the best, having played in last week’s Dubai Moonlight Classic. They both now travel to Saudi Arabia for their next two events on the Ladies European Tour, and after that, the final Race to Costa Del Sol event, the Spanish Open.

We will be following them both, and all our friends at the LET as they complete their season.

We all discussed the opportunity to encourage a Men’s Cancer Awareness Day. There are so many women’s cancer initiatives all over Dubai and the UAE which should be applauded as they are all well attended and gain excellent media coverage. But there are not many for men. We are speaking to Mediclinic on how we can all support a ‘Movember’ campaign, maybe with proper planning in 2022.

Our next DRGS event will be held at Dubai Hills Golf Club on Wednesday this week.

Membership Fees for DRGS are Dhs 1,000 per annum, with an active and varied golfing calendar, other social activities, plus so much more is delivered, through the platform of golf, with the objective of connecting with old friends and making new friends and having fun.
