ICC to welcome any legislation in Lanka, India

Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) said they would welcome any law criminalising the act of match-fixing in cricket. “We would welcome any such law, whether in Sri Lanka, India or indeed any other country that currently doesn’t have something in place,” a ICC spokesperson said when asked about their reported push to bring about the legislation in Lanka.

“The ICC Anti-Corruption Unit team, led by Alex [Marshall] have met with a number of senior politicians, including the president and prime minister whilst in Sri Lanka and there is support to bring in such a law there,” the spokesperson said, refraining from further comments on ‘ongoing investigations.’

The absence of such a law in the Indian sub-continent, from where a substantial number of corruption cases in cricket have been reported, have so far proved to be a deterrent in bringing the corrupt to book.
