The road to the 2021 Oscars has been tested by a pandemic that has shaken Hollywood. Amid closures of beloved theatres and the rise of streaming services, the tradition-bound Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had to embrace change for the show to go on. With the show a day away, it’s the last chance to watch as many groundbreaking nominees as possible and build up excitement for the show. Here is everything you need to know about the Oscars. Where can I watch in the UAE?: The host-less ceremony will be held at Union Station Los Angeles (where preparations are underway to make the space picture perfect for the grand event) and at the show’s usual home, the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Guests will not be required to wear face masks during the live telecast. But for those who didn’t get an invitation to attend in person, can watch the historical show and the socially distant red carpet ceremony prior to the awards while sitting in the UAE. Additionally, film buffs have a day to squeeze in some Oscar-winning films on OSN, including Bong-Joon Ho’s ‘Parasite’, Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood’ (pictured) and more on OSN Movies. On April 25, OSN viewers can also catch the special, ‘Oscars: Into the Spotlight’, which will serve as a prelude to the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony. The special will be hosted by ‘Hamilton’s Arian DeBose and Lil RelHowery from ‘Bad Trip’. This 90-minute special will highlight nominees’ journey to Hollywood’s biggest night, giving fans around the world a peek into the party and bringing Oscar music to the festivities for the first time ever. Who’s nominated? Netflix still hasn’t had a best picture winner, but with ‘Mank’ (pictured) and ‘Trial of the Chicago 7’ nominated for the top prize, this might just be the streaming giant’s year. With 36 nominations, Netflix has the chance to come away with the most awards of the night.
