The British-educated Razak was the Prime Minister of Malaysia from 2009 to 2018. During these years nearly $4.5 billion were stolen from 1MDB - co-founded by Najib during his first year as prime minister in 2009. In 2020, a court had found him guilty on seven counts - centred on a total of 42m ringgit ($9.4 million) which was transferred from SRC International - a former unit of 1MDB - into Razak’s private accounts.
