(By Sadiq Shaban, Opinion Editor) Image Credit: AFP 2 of 3 AI WILL IMPACT 40% JOBS GLOBALLY, SAYS IMF: Artificial Intelligence will affect almost 40 per cent of global jobs, with advanced economies feeling the pinch far more than emerging markets and low-income countries, the International Monetary Fund has said in a recent analysis. According to IMF’s chief Kristalina Georgieva, the most likely scenario is that AI will worsen overall income inequality. And that’s a troubling trend policymakers must address to prevent from technology stoking further social tensions, said Kristalina. AI's income inequality effect will largely depend on how much the technology complements high earners as well. Also, more productivity from high-income workers and companies would boost capital returns, widening the wealth gap, Georgieva said. The IMF has recommended countries should provide ‘comprehensive social safety nets’ and retraining programs for vulnerable workers. Khalid Al Hosani, Director of Geology and Mineral Resources Department at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, highlights the country's wealth of geological treasures, including Al Aflaj (ancient irrigation systems), sand dunes, mountain ranges, coastlines as well as coral reefs and sea caves. These natural wonders serve as a platform for exploration and outdoor activities. Emphasising geotourism's role, Al Hosani underscores the government's commitment to promoting this sector, evident in the "World’s Coolest Winter" campaign, which forms part of the UAE Strategy for Domestic Tourism.
