INDIA MUST MOVE FAST ON WOMEN’S RESERVATION BILL: A bill reserving a third of seats for women in India’s Lok Sabha and state assemblies has received widespread support from across the political spectrum. It’s been a long time coming and has taken many hours of debate in and outside parliament. It will now need the approval of both houses of parliament and a majority of state legislatures to be passed. There are other hurdles to be crossed before it is implemented. But the first step has been taken and this is commendable. Now the political and bureaucratic machinery must move fast to make it a reality.
