Headed to Abu Dhabi? Register for the ‘Darb toll system’ in 8 easy steps

Dubai: With a COVID-19 test no longer needed to enter Abu Dhabi from within the UAE, you may be planning to make a trip to the Emirate sometime soon. Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) reminded motorists that they would need to register on the Darb toll gate system, if they are about to pass through a toll gate during their trip.

The process can be completed in minutes, by following these steps:

1. Visit – darb.itc.gov.ae

2. Click on create new account for individuals on the Toll Gate System login page

3. Enter your email address

4. Enter the verification code sent to your email.

5. Select the Emirate your vehicle is registered in and enter your traffic number.

6. Enter the mobile number linked to your traffic number to receive a verification code

7. Enter the verification code sent to your phone.

8. Enter all profile information and click on complete registration.

Your account is now active and you can top up your e-wallet.

How to top up your e-wallet

Once you have registered with the Darb website, you will see a ‘financial wallets’ widget on your dashboard.

Under ‘My wallet’ you will see the amount showing up as Dh0, if you have created a fresh account.

Click on the icon next to ‘top up’.

You will get the option of topping the wallet up with set amounts like Dh50, Dh100, Dh150 or Dh200. Alternatively, you can also provide a specific amount as per your requirement.

Select ‘Top up using Credit Card’.

Enter your credit card number and other related details.

Click ‘Pay’.

Your payment will be processed and the amount will then reflect on your e-wallet.

How much does each crossing cost?

Each crossing is charged at Dh4, with a daily cap at Dh16 for private vehicles.

This means that if you cross the gates more than four times in a day, you will only be charged a maximum of Dh16. Charges are not be levied on Fridays and public holidays.

Charge only during peak hours

The toll is only charged during the rush hour. The timings are:

1. 7am-9am

2. 5pm-7pm

This means that there will be no fees for crossing the gates during non-rush hour timings.

Exemptions

ITC announced that the following categories would be exempt from the toll system:

1. Elderly citizens

2. Retired citizens

3. People of determination

4. Low-income citizens

The following vehicles have also been exempted from the toll system:

1. Ambulances

2. Army vehicles

3. Civil defence vehicles

4. Police vehicles from other emirates and Ministry of Interior vehicles

5. Public taxis licensed in Abu Dhabi

6. School buses permitted by ITC

7. Transport buses of 26+ passengers

8. Motorbikes

9. Towed vehicles

However, registering vehicles on the Darb system is mandatory, even for the exempted categories. To apply for exemptions, applicants would need to visit the Darb app or website.

Monthly fee cap

There is also a monthly cap for private vehicles.

1. Dh200 for the first vehicle

2. Dh150 for the second vehicle

3. Dh100 for each additional vehicle

The daily and monthly fee caps do not apply to company vehicles.

Location of toll gates

There are four toll gates:

1. Sheikh Zayed Bridge

2. Sheikh Khalifa Bridge

3. Mussafah Bridge

4. Al Maqta'a Bridge
