Al Hosn Festival in full swing
Abu Dhabi event provides an insight into the culture of the UAE on its golden jubilee
In a build up to the UAE’s golden jubilee, the currently underway Abu Dhabi’s Al Hosn Festival is a spectacular cultural experience unlike any other. The event is an ode to the Capital’s historic traditions, as well as its contemporary and rapidly emerging cultures. The festival, which opened on November 25, will run until December 4.
The event will showcase art, design, dialogues and performances from the UAE, while also showcasing traditional crafts, historic narrations and re-enactments, Al Hosn Festival aims to protect, celebrate and nurture the lineages of inspiration which link all of Abu Dhabi’s creative communities.
Given the jubilee celebrations, this year there is a veritable smorgasbord of programmes dedicated to heritage, arts and culture.
The festival will run for 10 days and will offer a multisensory experience for visitors. From art, design, cuisine, discussions and performances – it is a vibrant perspective on culture in the Emirate.
Divided in three distinct sections -- which signify the past, present and future -- the event has something on offer for everyone. There are plenty of kiosks that have traditional food, while local handicraft and jewellery are also available for sale.
Several local artisans are on hand to demonstrate traditional techniques. Some will even expound on their skills to enable a deeper insight into their technique. So, visitors have a chance to potentially learn new skills.
The annual event, organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, celebrates the UAE's 50th anniversary by giving visitors a chance to learn and engage with the country's heritage.
Children under four enter free and all tickets include admission to Qasr Al Hosn, the House of Artisans and Bait Al Gahwa.
