Christian Dior’s passion for nature and botany and his private tranquil getaway on the Côte d’Azur inspire a new Dior Maison collection

Dior Maison has released the new La Colle Noire collection celebrating Christian Dior’s favourite countryside getaway, which has inspired a line of delicate houseware intricately decorated with botanical motifs.

Christian Dior acquired Château de la Colle Noire in 1950 and soon after started completely renovating and restoring the place to represent his idea of art de vivre.

The Château de la Colle Noire was Dior’s private respite in Montauroux on the Côte d’Azur, where the legendary founder of his eponymous Maison found tranquility and stimulation in creating his fragrances.

The collection includes dinner and dessert plates, mouth-blown glass decanters, hand-painted glasses, napkins and embroidered placemats.

The Château dates back 200 years, but it was in 1950 that Dior acquired the property along with its sprawling parklands over some 90 hectares of land comprising century-old trees and rare flowers and plants. Just a few years later the house was completely restored with the renovations entrusted to Russian architect Andreï Svetchine, also known for two villas commissioned by artist Marc Chagall. For Dior la Colle Noire was to become the essence of the French art de vivre.

Commemorating his peaceful Provencal heaven, the new collection from Dior Maison is a vibrantly coloured line of dinner and dessert plates, mouth-blown glass decanters, hand-painted glasses, napkins and embroidered placemats, depicting the lilacs, lilies of the valley, roses, carnations, tulips and papavers found all over the Château. La Colle Noire collection is a true homage to the founding couturier’s passion for nature and botany.
