Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels coming to Abu Dhabi
Through a partnership with The Arts Center at New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is bringing the art of choreography to the UAE on October 26-27
Launched last month for the first time in the region, the Dance Reflections Festival brought to you by Van Cleef & Arpels in partnership with NYU Abu Dhabi Arts Center is announcing the next performance of "What the Day Owes to the Night" by Hervé Koubi taking place on October 26.
French luxury jewellery Maison Van Cleef & Arpels has maintained close ties to the world of dance since early in its 116-year history, but the bond really strengthened in the 1950s when Claude Arpels met one of the most influential choreographers of the 20th century, co-founder of New York City Ballet, George Balanchine.
The relationship ended up inspiring Balanchine’s Jewels ballet which was performed in 1967 for the first time in New York. More recently, famous ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied of New York City Ballet partnered up with the Maison, which resulted in the creation of Dance Reflections, an institution dedicated to the world of dance and the support of dance programmes around the world.
"What the Day Owes to the Night”, by Algerian Hervé Koubi, reflects his homeland and fuses ballet with urban dance interpreting it through various disciplines such as martial arts, hip-hop, and capoeira. The show is on October 26 at The Arts Center on Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island, before the next event is added to the Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels programme early next year.
