While Art Basel was open for special invitees on June 15, the renowned show will open to the general public today. Following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s editions is back in full force. So strong in fact that art worth as much as USD 75 million found new homes within the first few hours of the opening of the fair.

The event will run from June 16 to 19, 2022 and will witness the convergence of the international artworld and collectors. There are as many as 200 leading galleries that are taking part in the event, making it one of the biggest of its kind. Cumulatively, more than 4,000 artists hailing from five different continents will be part of Art Basel.

As part of the proceedings, there are several high-quality exhibitions that will be held in and around Basel – in essence, it’s a region-wide art week. Expectedly, there is a whole new wave of artists that are part of the event and are, in fact, making a substantial impact on the fair with their creations.

However, Art Basel is not merely about art – it also celebrates other creative disciplines. For instance, as part of the event there are film screenings planned as well, which started yesterday.

Then, there is Basel’s Messeplatz, which “will feature a participatory floor installation titled Out of Sight by Lawrence Weiner, in homage to the artist who passed away in December 2021. Modeled on a hopscotch grid, the work aims to inspire and engage visitors through visualisation, physicalising positive thinking through the use of Weiner's signature typographic texts.”
