Abu Dhabi: Ahmed Mohammed Obaid Al Mansouri, an iconic Emirati architect of the media landscape in both the UAE and Oman, passed away on Saturday at the age of 80.
Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of broadcasting in the region, Al Mansouri’s career stretched several decades, during which he played a significant role in shaping the media landscape of the Gulf.
Born in 1944 in Al Shindagha, Dubai, Al Mansouri began his journey in media at an early age, honing his skills through journalism school. His passion for the field quickly propelled him into the national spotlight.
In 1967, he was appointed as a broadcaster at Sawt Al Sahel Radio, making him one of the first national voices in UAE radio. Over the years, he rose to the position of Assistant Director of Radio and Television for Radio Affairs in Abu Dhabi, where he played a key role in the growth of the UAE’s media sector.
Al Mansouri’s contributions went beyond the newsroom. He was a close companion of the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, often accompanying him on international tours and leading media delegations. His work in covering these moments in the nation’s history cemented his legacy as a key figure in the region’s media evolution.
