UAE's Intissar Rich relishing return to Morocco for Ladies European Tour event
The 23-year-old is making her third start at the Lalla Meryem Cup
The UAE’s Intissar Rich is relishing a return to Ladies European Tour action this week as she tees it up for a third time at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco.
The UAE National Team player has enjoyed a fine run of form over recent months, winning individual gold and leading the UAE to team victory at the GCC Golf Championships in December.
That triumph came shortly after Rich had flown the flag for the UAE at the prestigious World Amateur Team Championships at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, with the Eisenhower Trophy and Espirito Santo Trophy being held in the Middle East for the first time last October.
“I’m thrilled to be returning to Morocco to compete this week,” said Rich, who received an invitation from tournament organisers to compete.
“The support the EGF has given me over the last two years has been second to none. My game has really improved dramatically since making the move to the UAE, thanks to the country’s world-class facilities and coaches.
“I’m really looking forward to putting that to the test at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam against some of the world’s best players.”
Rich will be joined in the field by UAE teammate Jamie Camero as well as Moroccan star Maha Haddioui, who was the first Arabic women to secure Ladies European Tour playing privileges – something Rich hopes to achieve in the future.
“Maha is an inspiration to all Arabic female golfers,” said Rich, who plays off a handicap of plus three.
“With the support of the EGF, I believe one day I can earn status on the Ladies European Tour and hopefully the LPGA Tour in the future. Obviously, I need to keep improving everyday but with hard work and determination anything is possible.
“It would be a dream to fly the flag for the UAE every week on a professional golf tour.”
General Abdullah Alhashmi and Akram Skaik, Director General at the EGF, will also be in attendance this week as they look to build on their blossoming relationship with the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation.
