Liverpool great Kenny Dalglish has expressed "immense gratitude" to National Health Service staff after returning home from the hospital following his coronavirus diagnosis. The 69-year-old former Celtic, Scotland and Liverpool forward was hospitalised on Wednesday for treatment on gallstones and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19 despite not showing symptoms.

Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, the mother of Minnesota Timberwolves centre Karl-Anthony Towns, died on Monday due to complications from COVID-19 after more than a month of fighting the virus. She was 59. The Timberwolves made the announcement via the Towns family, which requested privacy. Karl Towns Sr, the father of the two-time All-Star player, was also hospitalised with the virus but has since recovered.

Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City coach, has been hit by the devastating news that his mother Dolors has died after being diagnosed with coronavirus, the English Premier League champions said. “The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep’s mother Dolors Sala Carrio in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting coronavirus. She was 82-years-old,” City said.

Nigel Benn, the British boxing legend, has revealed his brother Mark has died of coronavirus. The former world champion at two weights revealed the news to his fans on Instagram on Monday. “My brother Mark passed Away 2day (Covid 19), as we all were growing up Mark was the Joker of the Benn house hold,” the 56-year-old wrote. “May he Rest In Peace love u Mark.’”

Former Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has confirmed that he has tested positive for coronavirus. The Belgian, who joined Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng last January from the English Premier League side, returned to the country on Friday to join up with his club and tested positive for the coronavirus. The former Belgium international did not have a fever and was asymptomatic, the club said, and has now been placed in quarantine.

Juventus star Paulo Dybala has tested positive for coronavirus. The Argentine forward became the third player from the club that has been diagnosed with the infection. Dybala said in a message posted on his social media handles that he and his girlfriend Oriana Sabatini, who is an Argentine singer, actress and model and the niece of 1990 US Open champion Gabriela Sabatini, have both tested positive for COVID-19. "Hi everyone, I just wanted just to inform you that we have received the results for the COVID-19 test and both Oriana and I have tested positive. Luckily we are in perfect conditions. Thanks for your messages," he said.

AC Milan and Italy legend Paolo Maldini and his son Daniel, who currently plays for the club, have both been tested positive for coronavirus, the Serie A club said in a statement. "AC Milan confirms that Paolo Maldini, the club's Technical Director, became aware of contact with a person who subsequently tested positive for coronavirus and began to display symptoms of the virus himself," said Milan on Saturday. "He was administered with a swab test yesterday, the result of which was positive. His son Daniel, a forward in AC Milan's youth team who had previously been training with the First Team, also tested positive."

The Staples Center, home to the Lakers and Clippers and the NHL's Kings, has ramped up cleaning procedures as part of a wide-ranging plan. The hub of sports and entertainment in Los Angeles hosted 39 events after the first case of COVID-19 was diagnosed in the county, including the memorial service for Kobe Bryant, the Grammy Awards, two nights of bull riding, 12 Kings games, and 19 games involving the Lakers or Clippers. The final three games came during four days, ending March 11 when sports at every level lurched to a stop because the rampant spread of the virus. At least eight athletes who played in those games have been diagnosed with COVID-19: four Brooklyn Nets, including star Kevin Durant, two Lakers who haven't been identified and two members of the NHL's Ottawa Senators.

The president of Mexico's Liga MX soccer league has tested positive for coronavirus. League President Enrique Bonilla said in a statement Friday that he doesn't have serious symptoms but will remain in isolation.

France’s 2018 World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi has been in self-isolation at his home since March 11 after testing positive

Matuidi's Juventus teammate Juventus Daniele Rugani has also tested positive.

As a precautionary measure their teammate Cristiano Ronaldo has been in isolation for several days in Madeira, where he was born, though he has shown no symptoms. He has called on fans via social media to respect public health guidelines.

Five footballers with the Italian club Sampdoria have tested positive, along with the club’s doctor. Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic (pictured) at Fiorentina, another Serie A club, is also infected.

In Britain, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has tested positive.

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has also fallen ill due to the virus.

Ezequiel Garay, the Valencia player, was the first Spanish league player to contract the virus.

Bundesliga club Paderborn's Luca Kilian has tested positive for the coronavirus. Three players in the German second division also have the virus.
