Although Dubai Design Week has concluded, there’s still time to catch Sami Hayek’s acclaimed Frequency exhibition at Christie’s DIFC, which is open until November 14. This exhibition marks the Middle Eastern debut of the celebrated Mexican artist and designer, showcasing over 20 meticulously crafted furniture pieces, sculptures, and installations. Each creation in Frequency embodies Hayek’s philosophy of using “frequency” to establish a deeper, sensory relationship between the object, the space, and the viewer.

In his first visit to Dubai earlier this year, Hayek found inspiration in the city’s “incredible energy, vibrancy, culture, growth, and diversity,” leading him to create the exclusive “Dubai Credenza.” Reflecting on his artistic process, Hayek shared, “I designed the Dubai Credenza as an entirely new piece, based on the frequencies I felt during my first visit in May. Dubai’s frequency reminded me of a hummingbird—the energy, the movement, the color. The design on the cabinet doors reflects this mesmerizing pattern, capturing the essence of a hummingbird’s graceful flight.”

The Frequency collection offers more than just aesthetics; it invites viewers to engage with the artworks physically. From intricate materials like volcanic rock, anodized aluminum, glass beads, and precious woods, Hayek’s designs blend machine precision with artisan skill, transforming static furniture into dynamic, interactive art. Notable pieces include the “Maya Frequency 2,” a wall-mounted installation designed to be touched and rotated, and the Feather Table, a striking 12-seater adorned with sacred geometry, designed to elevate the communal dining experience.

For Hayek, each piece in Frequency is created not as an endpoint but as an “ingredient” in a larger, harmonious living environment. This immersive experience reflects his belief in the profound influence that design has on our daily lives. “Everything around us has a frequency, every color has resonance,” Hayek explained. “Each object in Frequency is curated to bring positivity and well-being to its surroundings.”

Christie’s Middle East Managing Director, Meagan Kelly Horsman, expressed pride in bringing Hayek’s work to Dubai, emphasizing that his vision aligns with Dubai’s vibrant art scene. “Sami’s work resonates deeply with the spirit of Dubai, inviting audiences into a sensory experience that redefines how we connect with our surroundings through art.”

As Frequency runs through November 14, this exclusive exhibition provides one last opportunity to engage with Hayek’s transformative work beyond Dubai Design Week, leaving visitors with a lasting impression of art that lives and breathes within the spaces we inhabit.
