The only recipe you would ever need to make Mumbai (Bombay) Pav at home ... so delicious, you'll never want to buy packaged bread again

These golden bread rolls taste as good as they smell and can be baked under 30 minutes



Here's how you can make Mumbai or Bombay Pav at home...

Also known as Ladi pav, these golden-brown and buttery bread rolls are a favourite among diners at Indian restaurants. Often found as an accompaniment for street food dishes like pav bhaji or vada pav, these soft bread loaves can be eaten as a snack during tea time as well.

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 40 minutes

Serves: 2

Ingredients:

  1. 2 cup flour
  2. 20 ml oil
  3. ½ cup sugar
  4. 1 tbsp butter
  5. 1 tbsp yeast
  6. ¼ cup bread improver (store bought)
  7. Salt to taste

Method:

Step 1: Take equal measurements of flour in a bowl, as per your requirement. Using the same bowl, add yeast, sugar and add bread improver.

Next, add in the yeast...

Step 2: Add the entire mix into a food processor to knead it into a dough by adding in equal parts of water and oil. Make sure to be very careful while adding water because the dough should remain thick in its consistency.

Once the processor starts to knead the dough,

add in a little bit of oil to smoothen the kneading process.

Once the dough has been kneaded well, it is time to take it out and rolled into small loaves.

Step 3: Once kneaded, place it on a clean surface and using lighly greased palms to roll the dough into palm-sized balls and place it on a steel tray.

Step 4: Lightly press the dough balls in their place and wrap it in cling film for the yeast to rise. Leave it to rest for 10 minutes before setting it in the oven to bake

Step 5: Once the bread rises, bake them at 170C for 20 minutes

Step 6: Once the bread has been baked, brush melted butter across the surface of the bread and leave it to rest for 10 minutes before serving it fresh and hot out of the oven.
