We are excited to welcome the world to Dubai. Expo 2020 Dubai is preparing to welcome 25 million visitors between October 20, 2020 and April 10, 2021. It will be the biggest event ever staged in the Arab world and the first time a World Expo is being hosted in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.
Through its theme, ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, Expo 2020 Dubai will bring the world together to collaborate, create and innovate in the areas of its three key sub-themes, Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. With 190 participating countries and 70 per cent of visitors expected to come from outside the UAE, Expo 2020 will be one of the most inclusive World Expos in the 168-year history of the event.
Each participating country will have its own pavilion, allowing every nation to showcase its achievements and aspirations as well as its culture.
There is a lot going on and a lot to do at Expo 2020. There are thousands of people working hard to ensure it is an unrivalled success. They are driven by the leadership of H.E. Reem Al Hashimy, who successfully led the bid for Dubai to host Expo 2020, including attracting a record number of votes. Her Excellency continues as the Director General of Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau and is also the UAE Minster of State for International Cooperation.
The extraordinary architecture is already becoming visible on the horizon, with construction of the Expo site on track and well advanced. About 40,000 workers are due on site during peak construction in the coming months. Expo 2020 has also been a catalyst for other projects in the Emirate. In line with the history of important technological breakthroughs unveiled at World Expos, Expo 2020 Dubai is working with its partners, international participants, businesses, innovators and even students to develop the next era of ground-breaking innovations.
Expo 2020 has already announced it is the first commercial customer to access 5G in the Middle East. Its Expo Live social impact programme is supporting innovative solutions that improve society or the environment, or both, around the world while more than 20,000 businesses globally have signed up to work with the Expo.
The ABLF has a prominent history in the UAE, and we do our best to support it. The ABLF platform is nothing short of exemplary and I look forward to working closely with it in the years to come.
The youth too are benefiting through the Expo School Programme, which has engaged with students and educators at more than 600 schools across the UAE and is now welcoming them to the Expo Visitor Centre on site.
More than 30,000 people from all backgrounds across the UAE have the opportunity to become the face of Expo as volunteers, helping to welcome the world to Dubai while gaining valuable skills and experiences.
