FTA urges businesses with December licenses to register for corporate tax by year-end
The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has again urged businesses with licenses issued in December, regardless of the year, to complete their Corporate Tax registration by December 31, 2024 to avoid penalties.
In a statement today, the FTA reminded businesses to follow the timelines and deadlines for different groups to register under the federal norms on Corporate Tax. This law, amended and effective from March 1, 2024, outlines the obligations of all taxable entities.
According to the law, administrative penalties will apply to those who fail to register on time. The FTA highlighted that this applies to both resident and non-resident businesses and individuals. Resident businesses established or recognized before 1st March 2024 must register based on the month their license was issued, irrespective of the year.
For businesses holding multiple licenses as of March 1, 2024, the earliest license issuance date determines the registration deadline. Similarly, even if a license had expired by that date, the registration requirement is still based on its original issuance month.
The FTA has made the registration process straightforward through the EmaraTax platform, accessible 24/7. The process involves four steps and takes around 30 minutes. Businesses already registered for VAT or Excise Tax can use their existing accounts on EmaraTax to register for Corporate Tax.
Those who have not yet registered should create a new username on EmaraTax at eservices.tax.gov.ae using their email address and mobile number. Once the account is set up, users can select the “Register for Corporate Tax” option and follow the instructions to submit their application.
Taxpayers can also register through authorized tax agents listed on the FTA website or at government service centers offering electronic services. Once the application is verified and approved, a team of specialists issues a Tax Registration Number, which is sent to the email address provided during registration.
The FTA has encouraged all businesses to review the Corporate Tax Law and related guidelines available on its website to ensure compliance with the regulations.
