Unique new Pro-Am event added to UAE golf calendar
Dubai: At Augusta National they play for a green jacket each April (pandemics notwithstanding). At the Montgomerie Golf Club Dubai and Arabian Ranches Golf Club this month, you can compete for Dubai’s answer to the most recognisable sports coat in all of sports in a new pairs event open to amateurs and UAE PGA professionals.
White Eagle LLC, a new multi-sport events company based in Dubai, is making its first foray into golf with ‘The Greensomes Open 2021, an event where the winning team will walk away in soon-to-be coveted Black Jackets. To be staged at the two Troon International-managed clubs on January 29 (Montgomerie Golf Club Dubai) and January 30 (Arabian Ranches Golf Club) respectively, the 36-hole strokeplay event will be played under the greensomes format. Greensomes is similar to foursomes, the difference being that both players tee off, select the best ball and then play alternate shots from there until the ball is holed. Pro-Am, Am-Am or even Pro-Pro. The makeup of your team for the inaugural ‘The
Greensomes Open 2021 supported by White Eagle’ is up to you. So too is where you’ll proudly sport your stylish Black Jacket in triumph afterwards. For professionals, there’s even a prize fund for the first and second Professional/ Professional team. “I am very excited for the launch of what we believe is a unique event,” said White Eagle CEO Marta Biswas. “We are looking forward to establishing it as a permanent feature in Dubai’s golfing calendar and are thrilled to be kicking off the inaugural edition at The Montgomerie Golf Club Dubai and Arabian Ranches Golf Club. They’re two wonderful courses we know participants chasing the first Black Jackets will enjoy. The inaugural event will also start the unique legacy of the Black Jacket being awarded to the overall champions. They’ll be invited next year to defend their title or do the formality of crowning the next year’s winners, similar to the Masters. It is a unique concept and something which is not yet here in any amateur tournament in UAE.”
Michael Neider, Cluster Director of Golf for Emaar’s trio of properties including the Montgomerie Golf Club Dubai, Arabian Ranches Golf Club and Dubai Hills Golf Club, has welcomed the new event. "On behalf of Arabian Ranches Golf Club and Montgomerie Golf Club Dubai, we are thrilled to be hosting the inaugural Greensomes Open Supported by White Eagle,” Neider said. “White Eagle has been a tremendous supporter of our golf clubs and this event, which is unique to the region will continue what has been a great relationship.”
