IET and IMechE Accreditation on completion of the programme helps to fulfil educational requirements for a Chartered Engineer when presented with an accredited MSc.

The globally recognised quality accreditations from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) offered to De Montfort University (DMU) Dubai’s BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering programmes, completes its industry-readiness training.

Graduates will gain these dual accreditations to advance towards professional registration as a Chartered Engineer and also to give them an edge in this highly competitive job market.

Dr Fuad Khoshnaw, Subject Head for Science, Engineering and Computing (SEC) Portfolio at DMU Dubai said: “The Mechanical Engineering programme at the KHDA-approved DMU – Dubai campus will help students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become a professional engineer. Mechanical engineering is vital to all aspects of our everyday lives, incorporating the design, development, installation, operation and maintenance of just about any product that has movable parts. This could be substantial structures such as power stations, oil platforms or jet engines, right down to a single valve.

A great advantage of our BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering programme is that it is fully aligned with the quality standards set by IMechE and IET accreditation and this is why when you successfully complete the modules, you will be eligible for the award of the dual accreditation from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). This fulfils the educational requirements for a Chartered Engineer when presented with an accredited MSc.”

The programme offers specialist facilities such as dynamics and control laboratories, mechanics and materials laboratories, engine test cell and Rohde and Schwarz embedded systems laboratories which simulate an industry environment. Special modules like Solid Mechanics and Finite Element Analysis that meet comprehensive requirements for designing and simulation of different components that are essential at different industries that deal with mechanical and thermomechanical stresses, fluids and thermodynamics.

Students can also join DMU Racing and take part in Formula Student, an annual initiative set up by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers which challenges universities across the world to design, build and race a single-seat racing car.

The BEng (Hons) Mechanical Degree is suited to the UAE market, which is driven by the industrial sector. The programme has been organized to cover the industrial needs for manufacturing, implementation and maintenance of various mechanical components, food industry, oil and gas and aerospace applications. Graduates also have opportunities to progress into careers across a range of fields, including aerospace, automotive, defence and energy, as well as work in the product manufacturing and food and beverage industries.

BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering is one of the many programmes offered by DMU Dubai, the branch of the award-winning DMU Leicester. The other programmes to be introduced this year include BA (Hons) Fashion Communication & Styling, BA (Hons) Interior Design, B.Sc. (Hons) Psychology, BA (Hons) Business and Management, BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance, Law LLB (Hons), BSc (Hons) Cyber Security and the MBA (Global).

DMU Dubai students will also be offered the opportunity to transfer their studies to the UK campus at any point of the academic year to experience diversity and exceptional international career support by DMU Works.
