Curtin University Dubai students triumph in prestigious research competition
In a resounding celebration of academic excellence and research prowess, Curtin University Dubai students have emerged triumphant in the 10th Undergraduate Research Competition hosted by Abu Dhabi University. This prestigious competition, featuring the participation of over 400 projects from 64 universities across several countries, served as the ultimate battleground for these young scholars to showcase their extraordinary research capabilities in various categories.
Two teams from Curtin University Dubai secured top positions, solidifying their reputation as rising stars in the world of research. This achievement not only showcases the exceptional talent nurtured at Curtin University Dubai but also underscores the institution's unwavering commitment to academic quality and student success.
Under the mentorship of Dr. Noor Ulain Rizvi (Faculty in the School of Business & Humanities), these talented students underwent rigorous training and preparation for three months. Their hard work, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to their respective research projects have given them their share of academic recognition.
In the fiercely competitive landscape of research, Curtin University Dubai students excelled in two distinct categories. Fareeha Aziz won the first prize for her research paper titled, “Systematic Review of User-Generated Photos in Tourism and Hospitality Research: Findings and Future Directions” in the category of Management. Imaad Surve and Saranya Jayamohan won the second prize in the ‘Accounting, Economics, Finance & Fintech’ category for their paper titled, “From Hype to Reality: An Examination of the Use of Blockchain Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Accounting and Auditing, Based on a Systematic Literature Review.”
"Initially, I was just eager to try something new, and the idea of writing a research paper was quite appealing. My colleague (Saranya) and I put our hearts into it, especially in those last few days leading up to the competition, and we never really had winning on our minds. This achievement stands out as one of my greatest accomplishments."
“This competition was something entirely new for me, a step towards pushing out of my comfort zone. Although initially, it was kind of intimidating for me to be part of such a big competition, thanks to my mentor and my colleagues, I was able to easily sail through it. Fortunately, we were also able to bag the 2nd prize, which was a shocker for me and my partner as we thought being first timers, we might not be getting a prize. However, thankfully investing our blood, sweat and tears paid off!"
As we celebrate the outstanding achievements of these young researchers, it is evident that Curtin University Dubai's commitment to empowering students to excel in the world of research and innovation is yielding remarkable results. Dr Noor, who has a remarkable track record of nurturing talent, is especially ecstatic, as this win marks her third consecutive triumph as a mentor in this prestigious competition.
This victory not only highlights the students’ remarkable accomplishments but also underscores the university's dedication to nurturing talent and fostering a culture of excellence.
