Following Lamborghini and Ferrari shutting production at their Italian facilities, Maserati is the latest carmaker to halt construction at its Modena plant due to the coronavirus outbreak.

It is part of a greater plan announced by parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to protect its employees. Several of brands have already been impacted and Maserati is the newest.

Italy has reported just under 25,000 cases and over 1,800 deaths at the time of writing - and in a bid to contain the virus most manufacturing industries are being put on hold.

Lamborghini stopped production at its Sant'Agata Bolognese headquarters and Ferrari followed suit by shutting its Maranello and Modena plants. FCA closed its Melfi, Pomigliano, Cassino, Mirafiori Carrozzerie, Grugliasco, and Modena facilities.

Lamborghini said it would resume business on March 25 while Ferrari and FCA plan to reopen on March 27 - but that is only if the situation improves drastically otherwise these closures could be much longer than originally anticipated.
