It was way back in 1975 when BMW first commissioned an art car and that very first one, based on a 3.0 CSL, started a fascinating new craze. 45 years later, they are still at it – and the latest is electrifying. Literally.

BMW Brazil has used a 2020 745Le Hybrid as the canvas for its latest creation and the luxury saloon got a colourful new look by São Paulo-based photographer, Gabriel Wickbold, whose signature is visible on the 7 Series’ rear fender.

The BMW will be on display – with other works signed by Wickbold - at the brands Pop-Up Store located in the Shopping Cidade Jardim in Brazil.

Featuring a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder motor with an electric motor producing a combined 389 horsepower and up to 600Nm of torque, it isn’t clear what the artwork represents or if it is a wrap or the artist actually hand-painted the 7 Series. It looks fascinating but whether or not anyone would buy a car like this and then drive around in it is another story. Thanks to a 12 kWh battery pack, the 745Le can cover up to 55 km in all-electric mode.

"Art is an important pillar for the BMW Group, which supports several initiatives globally. We really appreciate Gabriel's works, because, like BMW, the artist proposes the union of technology, beauty, and design as a cutting edge reference," said Jorge Junior, Head of Marketing at BMW of Brazil. "In addition, he puts a lot of passion and dedication into everything he does, two very important behaviors for BMW."
