Dubai: Adel McKelvey stands a good chance of catching up with leader Angela Scurr on the UGA Ladies Gross Order of Merit table when she lines up for honours in the Emirates Ladies Amateur Open which gets under way at the Emirates Golf Club tomorrow.

Arabian Ranches Golf Club's Adel, at present, is placed second on 54 points behind Angela (Al Gazal Golf Club) who had jumped on top of the table with 74 points after her remarkable victory in the 28th Dubai Ladies Amateur Open Championship - the third event on the Gulf News-supported Order of Merit.

The absence of players like Angela and defending Order of Merit champion Sylvie Boulet-Capron notwithstanding, the Emirates Ladies Open features a strong field which includes as many as 18 single-digit handicap players.

Included in the field is Arabian Ranches Golf Club's Agnes Anwar, who, depending upon her performance, could improve upon her standing in the Merit list where she is placed fifth with 39 points.

Though it's not easy to predict the winners, players like Jacqui Barry (seven handicap), Sophie Fi (5), Viv Caley (7), Mitsuko Emerson (6) and Henna Jodha (8) among others have the stuff to provide a dramatic twist to any script.

The next and the fifth event on the UGA Order of Merit is the Montgomerie Ladies Open which will be played on April 5-6. UGA Order of Merit leaders after the third event (gross): 1. Angela Scurr (AGGC) 74 points, 2. Adele McKelvey (ARGC) 54, 3. Sandra Grenet (NASGC) 43, 4. Christine Round (ADGEC) 41.5, 5. Agnes Anwar (ARGC) 39.

Net Division: 1. Sandy de la Zilwa (AGGC) 52 points, 2. Christine Round (ADGEC) 49.5, 3. Angela Scurr (AGGC) 42, T-4. Cathy Feron (ADGEC) 36.5), T-4. Deborah Castle (DCC) 36.5.
