The recent reaction by Dubai Police with regards to a group of reckless drivers on Shaikh Zayed Road is commendable as it was swift, immediate and showed no tolerance towards such behaviour on public roads. The police had received information earlier this month about a group of cars performing stunts with a video of the event being posted and widely viewed on the internet. "Shaikh Zayed Road is a vital road in Dubai, and these cars were not only endangering the lives of others but blocking traffic as well," said Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police.
The authorities were able to track down the drivers and arrest them. The police are also on the lookout for erring motorists. It is important that such efforts are widely communicated as a preventive measure. Safety on the roads is non-negotiable.
